Sun Sounds Mourns the Loss of Staff Member Tony Keras, 64

On September 16 Sun Sounds suffered the loss of a dear friend and colleague. Sun Sounds control room engineer and announcer Anthony, “Tony” Keras
passed away suddenly from heart failure in Phoenix at age 64. Tony was employed by Sun Sounds for 29 years. He was a volunteer prior to his employment.
He began in 1982 as the program director for Sun Sounds. He then became a control room engineer, a post he held until his passing. Tony hosted the
program called Talk & Swap on Sun Sounds for many years, and then was the producer and a host of the talk show “Sun Talk which ran for 8 years on Sun
Sounds. One could never mistake Tony’s distinctive baritone voice over the air.
Tony was born and grew up near Cleveland Ohio. He lost his sight in college in a motorcycle accident but continued to follow his love of broadcasting.
Tony was a skilled and talented broadcaster who earned a degree in broadcasting from Kent State University. His career in broadcasting began at Kent
State on the college radio station. He went on to be the Operations director of the Cleveland Radio Reading Service before coming to Sun Sounds.
He was an avid music fan who loved R&B music and doo-wop. His collection of 45’s ran into the tens of thousands. In addition to doo-wop he loved his
pet birds and the cats he fed in the neighborhood.
Tony leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Diana. He was a key member of the Sun Sounds family and will be greatly missed by staff and volunteers alike.
