Sun Sounds Radio Theater Salutes VE Day

Crowds in New York City celebrating V-E Day
Celebrants in Times Square, 1945

The newest Sun Sounds Radio Theater production of On A Note of Triumph, written by Norman Corwin, will air on Saturday, May 8 at 8pm in honor of the 65th Anniversary of VE Day, and rebroadcast on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31 at 10am.

It’s hard to believe it has been 65 years since World War II ended. On May 8, 1945 the German Armed Forces accepted unconditional surrender in Berlin. President Franklin Roosevelt had asked radio dramatist Norman Corwin to write a program hailing the victory in Europe. Roosevelt died before he could celebrate V-E Day, but On a Note of Triumph turned out to be one of radio’s greatest hits in a category of its own—poetic documentary.

Sun Sounds Radio Theater will reproduce that sometimes gritty, sometimes nostalgic program, called On a Note of Triumph We hope you’ll share this piece of history with us.
