(Tempe, AZ)-- Every year on October 15, White Cane Safety Day is recognized around the world as a day to promote awareness of the
white cane - not just as tool but a symbol of independence for people with blindness and vision loss.
Tune in to Sun Sounds of Arizona on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 8pm (repeating on Sunday, Oct. 10, 11am) for a special interview program with
two representatives from the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Affairs Medical Center who provide services to Arizona’s veterans.
Thomas Hicks, Visual Impairment Services Team Coordinator, and Eva Gergely, Orientation and Mobility Specialist, will describe the
extensive vision loss services available to veterans in Arizona, eligibility requirements, and how they each help newly-blinded
people adjust to daily life with a disability.
Tom and Eva will also discuss the upcoming White Cane Safety Day event taking place at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Affairs Medical Center on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 8:30am-1pm,
in the basement conference room at 650 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. Veterans and their families are encouraged to attend.
