Read the book everyone is talking about!
The Big Read project kicks off September 13, and through October 17 communities across the valley with be talking about this year’s selected classic,
“The Maltese Falcon” written in 1930 by author Dashiell Hammet.
Hard-boiled detective Sam Spade investigates a mysterious client, avenges the death of his partner, and chases the precious Maltese Falcon statue in the classic American novel. “The Maltese Falcon” is widely acclaimed as the best detective novel ever written, and the movie of the same name, starring Humphrey Bogart, launched the American film noir era.
The Big Read, an annual project funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, encourages classic literary reading and community discussion of a single book.
Sun Sounds of Arizona extends the effort to include people who cannot use printed materials. “The Maltese Falcon” will air on "Bookworld" starting October 2nd at 9pm. But before the book starts listen to a special in-studio interview with author Dashiell Hammet's granddaughter, Julie Rivel, airing October 1, 9pm.
